Cameras, Smiles, Millions of Selfies… that basically describes when girls are together. Of course, it’s me with my girls. No surprises, we took over 1,000 pictures in the past few days including digital, film & polaroid. Once you got so many choices, it’s absolutely hard to make decisions (please forgive us for delaying on updating our posts) on which to choose.
Regardless of the high cost of polaroid films, I personally like the way it looks. Especially the concept of “instant”, which allows me to get an actual photo in less than 3 mins. The size is pretty much the same as credit cards, so it can be easily kept in the wallet, and always brings back memories, isn’t it fun?
We used Fuji mini 7s & Instax wide 210, and you can purchase them from my favorite store: Urban Outfitters! (Or BestBuy, Amazon etc…) However, I have to mention at UO, you won’t take your eyes off the tech accessories. Let’s see what I bought were: 1) A filter lens setthat comes in 6 different colors, and are easy to switch out so I can take custom photos that fit your own style: You can see some of my pictures are “yellowish or blueish”, which gives the 90s/vintage feeling. So, it’s a must have for those of you who wants to add a touch of creativity to your very own Instax photos. 2) Rainbow Film, 10 colorful sheets that definitely make your photos unique! 3) Instax Patterned photo album, it’s like a book for all your tiny memories! This little guy can hold up to 64 Instax photos and can also display one as the front cover. 4) Fold-up album & frames, are the best tools to show off your fave Instax photos. Complete with a stand so you can place them on any flat surface, makes a perfect gift to your loved ones.
Besides, we would like to share with you 2 tips to shoot a perfect Instax picture. First of all, come closer! Due to the limitation of the photo size, if the shooting distance is short, your picture will be more clear; which means it’s a good idea to shoot half body than a full body picture. Last but not least, be creative and always give a try. Only if you’ve tried, you would understand yourself better and gradually start your style 😉
FINALLY, after Yico coming back from Shanghai, we were able to do our long-awaited smoke grenade ‘project’. But it wasn’t easy to find a good spot without people staring at us like we are weirdos, or somebody accidentally calling cops on us. But Voilà! We found a perfect spot just behind the Sound Museum, where you can have an astonishing view of the Toronto City.
We purchased the smoke-bomb from an online website, Rocket.ca where you can get a mix of colors in different packages. Though it was a little bit pricey, it was definitely an interesting experience.
The most difficult part of this photo-shoot project was being able to capture the best moments without having the smoke smearing all over your face (as you might notice from the first couple of pictures). Hopefully, we will be able to better getting used to using these grenades, and upload even better posts sometime soon!
Dreamy and steamy
Special thanks to Emily and Violet for coming with us all the way downtown, and helping us to figure out how to work things out.
My life in Shanghai is pretty simple, work from Monday to Friday, and hang out with friends on weekends. We usually go brunch/coffee, and exhibition or gallery. Hmm, I realized that I have not upload outfits post for so long, I gonna do one this weekend, so stay tuned! I am planning to travel to Korea in late September or October as my best friend just got accepted to a university. Super excited to buy their cosmetics !!!
Earlier in May, I went to an exhibition at Long Museum @ West Bund. It called “Nothingness is nothing at all” by Olafur Eliasson. When my friend told me about this, I was like the name is so cool and bought the tickets online intermediatly (first impression wins! The fact is that I was right, the whole exhibition was way beyond brilliant.
Olafur Eliasson, is the sculptor of light and space. He is talented at capturing light, and is able to match with the space. The transparent simplicity and experiential nature of his work has built Olafur Eliasson’s reputation as one of the world’s most accessible creators of contemporary art. It’s unbelievable to see how light moved, connected, separated and finally disappeared. To me, I felt like I was in outer space. However, the concept is trying to tell you, everything can be unreal, but art is always real.
Currently, his (new) installations are at Chateau de Versailles in France.
“His art is driven by his interests in perception, movement, embodied experience, and feelings of self. Art, for him, is a crucial means for turning thinking into doing in the world. ” Yes, I totally agree with this, art means for turning thinking into doing. It was my honor to get this opportunity to see his works.
Hello lovelies! Since I will be in Shanghai for the next six months, I’m going to make a detailed “to do list” in case you are planning to visit here. I personally feel like there is not much differences between Shanghai and Toronto as I still can easily find a cozy coffee shop or fancy brunch places to spend my day. During the weekends, most of the time I will go to some exhibitions or museums. Shanghai is extremely modern and artistic. You gonna fall in love with this city!
The Magda Danysz Gallery is hosting Charles Pétillon‘s first solo show in Shanghai till June 20. You might not be familiar with this French artist, but you may saw or heard his installation inside London’s Covent Garden with 100,000 balloons last year. It was a pity that I did not get a chance to see it while I was in London that time, so I’m way beyond excited when I found out he comes back with his gorgeous series of photographs “Invasions”, and a brand new installation.
The show totally blew my mind, and I never thought such beautiful artwork could be built by using a very simple element. (That’s why I am not an artist then). Charles is also good at choosing locations to install his artworks. It was the icing on the cake that he captured them under the help of nature or lights.
Yes and No: My hair is damaged because I keep changing different styles(probably 5 in 3 months), so I got a haircut, and it’s super short. For now, I have to wait it to grow longer. Granny grey is the next colour ( Just saying haha
Hello lovelies! In this week’s post, we thought that we could share some of our accessories collections that we’ve gathered over the past few weeks.
The COS necklace is our favourite. It is a simple design, but gives a statement to the outfit. For minimalists like us, these accessories are must haves. The key is to find pieces that are subtle and streamlined enough to wear it everyday, but also visually striking enough to wear on their own.
The hoop earnings and ear cuffs are from ASOS, made of fine metal. They are so simple yet elegant that goes with any outfits. If you have multiple piercings, create your own minimalist party by mix and match your favourite earrings. These hoops are 9mm, which is the perfect size to leave them on even in shower, sleeping, changing etc. They are not bothering at all, and no need to take it off all the time, which is great for lazy people like us haha.
The triangle hair clip is perfect addition to the overall outfit when you make a bun. They also have something similar at H&M, though the clips does not support thick hair.
