Hello lovelies! Since I will be in Shanghai for the next six months, I’m going to make a detailed “to do list” in case you are planning to visit here. I personally feel like there is not much differences between Shanghai and Toronto as I still can easily find a cozy coffee shop or fancy brunch places to spend my day. During the weekends, most of the time I will go to some exhibitions or museums. Shanghai is extremely modern and artistic. You gonna fall in love with this city!

The Magda Danysz Gallery is hosting Charles Pétillon‘s first solo show in Shanghai till June 20. You might not be familiar with this French artist, but you may saw or heard his installation inside London’s Covent Garden with 100,000 balloons last year. It was a pity that I did not get a chance to see it while I was in London that time, so I’m way beyond excited when I found out he comes back with his gorgeous series of photographs “Invasions”, and a brand new installation.

The show totally blew my mind, and I never thought such beautiful artwork could be built by using a very simple element. (That’s why I am not an artist then). Charles is also good at choosing locations to install his artworks. It was the icing on the cake that he captured them under the help of nature or lights.

Yes and No: My hair is damaged because I keep changing different styles(probably 5 in 3 months), so I got a haircut, and it’s super short. For now, I have to wait it to grow longer. Granny grey is the next colour ( Just saying haha

Neither of us are in Toronto during this time, but we thought we’d share some pictures we took in Allen Gardens from couple weeks ago. It is one of the oldest parks in Toronto, and it has a conservatory house that houses rare tropical plants from all over the globe. The greenhouse is always warm and humid, and they open everyday during the year with no admission fees, which makes it a great place to stop by even during the winter time.

Yico: Back to those days when I had my purple hair, I miss it so badly!!! Once I got back to China this May, I dyed my hair back to black because I was applying for an internship position which requires a professional look. (Luckily I got it, and yes I will share my job hunting stories later). The blouse is from COS, it’s a loose-fit with tie cuffs and split sides, and I chose to match with my skinny jeans. But, a pair of mom jeans or culottes will also look cute with this top. The most exciting part of my outfit is the lace-up ballerina shoes, especially the champagne color is unusual. I love the gold-tone heel as it gives me some heights, and I can imagine to wear this pointed toe pair with my shorts, skirts and dresses in the summer time.

Yu: I’ve been OBSESSED with this square scarf lately, after seeing one of my favourite Youtubers (@chrissstttiiine) wearing in her videos. Although I have to admit, these types of scarf don’t suit my round face shape, and it makes it look even more rounder :/ But since it immediately adds a nice touch to my simple outfits, I couldn’t care less. These pair of sandals are also my new favourite. Seriously, the most comfortable sandals fit for the spring/summer season. I also wear these while walking down the pebble streets in Europe.

Enjoy your week, summer is almost here!

I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about the weather in Toronto lately. But guess where I am right now? Czech Republic (or so called Czechia), a beautiful country located in the center of Central Europe.

I’m here because of a summer abroad program lead by University of Toronto, to study business strategies in a European context. To be honest, coming to Central Europe was never on my bucket list, but it was definitely worthwhile to choose Czech Republic over other Western European countries, after seeing all the beautiful sceneries in the Southern Moravian cities, including Telč and Brno. Although it’s only been a week since I came here, I still thought I’d share some photos and discoveries I’ve made during my stay.

Telč: The town square in Telč is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and luckily, our residence and classes took place right inside the plaza. After class, we would explore the city by ourselves and find colourful walls to capture the lovely atmosphere of this small town.

Discovery #1: Ice creams here are unbelievably inexpensive. One scoop of ice cream cone usually costs between 12~14 crowns, which is about $0.65CAD.

insta

Discovery #2: People here don’t smile often. Not because they don’t like you, but because they don’t know you well.

ughhh

Brno: Just about three days ago, our group relocated our accommodations and classes to Brno – the second largest city in Czech Republic. This city is full of students, and I’d say the transportation system is almost as developed as it is in Toronto (and the buses come in much faster pace).

Discovery #3: You will find A LOT of good looking people here on streets. From children to elderly, women to men. They all look like they just came out of the Barbie world, lustrous (at least in my eyes) from head to toe.

One thing I love about Southern Moravia is its unique architectural design that captures a remnant of communism days in Czechoslovakia. The majority of windows on these colourful buildings don’t have balconies for plants, which is a big difference compared to the Haussmann Buildings in Paris. Many sceneries we saw on the bus also reminded us of the rural regions in China.

Thank you Lulu (@luluxie) for taking some of the pictures, and letting me use them in this post! For the next few weeks, we will be visiting Krakow-Poland, Prague, Budapest-Hungary, and Vienna-Austria, so stay tuned for more pictures (hopefully in film) and thoughts for each city and country.

Have a great week everyone!

Yu

Hello lovelies, this week is a throw back series to my last trip at New York City. It was my third time visiting there, the main difference was that I slowed down to observe things, and had some special feelings rather than being a busy tourist who only focuses on sightseeing. So, I had A LOT to share with you from my perspectives of NYC!

I saw love at Top of the Rock from two couples in different ages. Especially this gentleman was trying to use his phone camera to capture his wife in the spotlight. Obviously, it’s difficult for him as the flash was too quick so he was unable to catch it, but he kept shooting only because he wants his wife to be happy.

I saw this near Brooklyn Bridge, and it made my day. A huge family: one man and seven dogs…Life Goal

I saw myself: hanging out (brunch) with friends, taking countless pictures, editing and posting them on social medias… Recently I started to wonder the purpose of doing so, why do I even care about others, and how much efforts those bloggers put in in order to run their platforms. Sometimes, I get really tired of putting all my effort into these, but the blog is still a great way to express myself, and am still searching for a way to make our site even a better one. People always change, you never know.

I saw the power of the time. I took this at Chinatown, and I first wanted to capture the background when people were passing by. However, it turned out to be one of my favourite shots because it reflects two generations. We only live once, we all will be old, so be free and be wild to enjoy our life.

I saw friendship. I was buying a ferry ticket and saw these 5 grannies eating their ice cream in a windy night. When the ferry was coming, one of them even said to the rest, “attention, ladies!” I mean, how cute are they? I am gonna be a cool lady/kid and still eat ice cream no matter what, even when I get older.

I saw responsibility. Even though it was cold, I can sit inside to have the view from the Empire States Building, but he had to stand outside since it’s his job. If he does not follow, he’s gonna lose it. I even saw there was a person worked in the elevator at a big metro station. He only had a small fan with him, and the only thing he needed to do was to press number for others; he only got the chance to have fresh air when the door was open for maybe 3 seconds and closed, he had to repeat the same steps everyday. I felt really bad and was so surprised when I saw this. NYC is a dream place for everyone, but there are thousands of people working/fighting really hard to stay there. We have to respect them!

The people in these pictures are all strangers, and they are the Humans of New York. Hope you enjoyed this post, and hopefully I’ll get more chances to record and share my thoughts and feelings in the future.

Leather jackets are the outfit savior when it comes to unstable weather situation we have going on in Toronto. The temperature sometimes rises up to 16 degree in the afternoon, but it gets very chilly in the evening. We putted together an outfit from each of us to show you how we like to wear our leather jackets in the ‘spring’ season.

Yu: I have had this leather jacket from Zara for a while now, and still not tired to wearing it almost everyday throughout my school year. As a student on a budget when it comes to buying clothing, I always tend to look to spend wisely on styles that’ll outlast trends. And this leather jacket has been one of the long-lasting wardrobe pieces. The turtle neck is from Club Monaco, but guess what – I found it in one of the thrift shops near home. The camel color has been my favourite, since it can be worn almost all season without making the whole outfit neither too formal nor too casual. Finally, I threw in a pair of Girlfriend-jeans from H&M to give it a more feminine flair. They are more on the fitted side, in comparison to Boyfriend-jeans, but comfy enough for me to wear them at home as a room wear (I’m wearing them right now as I’m writing this!).

Yico: B&W outfit is perfect for any occasions, and gives an effortless look. I always wanted to get a leather jacket because it’s chic and useful! However, it took me a while to get the right one because I’m short so some of them did not fit me well. The main reason I chose this piece is the design: a slightly cropped style. With my high rise skinny from Forever 21, and tucked in a plain white shirt, it draws attention to the lower part of the body, which makes my legs look longer (hopefully lol), and of course, it’s sooooo comfty!!! Also, who does not have a pair of Converse? Simple, classic, and matches all outfits…  Lastly, I have to mention my school bag that I purchased almost two years ago at Aritzia. It was a great deal since the original price was $475, and I bought it for half price. The backpack is made from premium leather so nothing changed after years of use.
